Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our happy hour last night at Barcade. It was great to finally meet so many people face to face, and so encouraging to see how many people are willing to commit their time and energy to supporting our partners in Tanzania.
This past month, our chapter focused on officially kicking off our new international project. Despite a few technical difficulties, we have been off to a great start, with more involvement and greater momentum than any of us had anticipated. Thank you again to everyone who has supported the project, and I look forward to working with you all!
– Steven Miller, Chapter President
Chapter Updates
Since our last general body meeting, we have officially filled our vacant Treasurer position. Cole Spitzner will serve as our new treasurer, responsible for managing chapter expenses, donations, and general funds. For any questions or concerns regarding our chapter’s finances, please contact Cole at treasurer@ewb-philly.org.
New Members
Recently, as chapter activity has ramped up, we have been fortunate enough to have a great number of new members join the chapter. To any new members, welcome to the chapter! We are excited to have you involved.
If you haven’t already, please join Volunteer Village, the Engineers Without Borders portal, and register under our chapter here.
As many people have experienced issues with registration in the past, please feel free to reach out to steven@ewb-philly.org with any questions or concerns.
I would encourage anyone interested in getting involved with the chapter to explore our Google Drive and to read our goals in our 2026 Chapter Roadmap, both accessible through the links to the right.
As our chapter continues to grow, we are looking to grow our presence both online and in our communities. It is the hope of the current chapter leadership that we expand our current outreach programs, adopt new partnerships in Philadelphia, and begin to explore more project opportunities.
If anyone is interested in adopting a role outside of our ongoing projects, including introducing a new local project, managing new marketing campaigns, or leading outreach initiatives, please reach out to me to discuss details: steven@ewb-philly.org.
International Project
On Tuesday, February 10th, we held our official International Project Kickoff call to launch a water supply project in Mambarare, Tanzania. Despite some technical difficulties, we had around two dozen people attend the meeting and join our team. If anyone was unable to make the meeting, the slides can be found here:
Since our kickoff meeting, each of our three working teams (fundraising, logistics, and design) has held meetings to begin the project work. If anyone is interested in joining any of the teams, please join the WhatsApp group below:
Additionally, we held our first official Mambarare Project fundraiser last night, a happy hour held at Barcade in Center City.
Around 2 dozen people supported the event by attending, organizing, and donating items to our raffle.
I am proud to say that we raised almost $500 from the event, a fantastic start for such a new project.
Domestic Project
Our local project team continues to work on the Greenhouse project for our community partner, Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden. The project is currently in its design phase, using AutoCAD to generate blueprints for potential new greenhouses. The goal is to submit project deliverables, including blueprints, a manual, final design doc, and more, by the garden’s seasonal re-opening in April. Anyone interested in getting involved in the project should reach out to project lead Olya Zhugayevich: o.zhugayevich@gmail.com or join the WhatsApp below:
